The Board of Trustees has ultimate responsibility for management of investments for The Seattle Foundation. It exercises this duty by issuing an investment policy statement in which it specifies the allocation of assets to various types of investments and establishes guidelines for the Investment Committee.
The Investment Committee, a standing committee of the Board of Trustees, is charged with overseeing the investment activities. This includes retaining investment managers, as needed, to meet the objectives of the investment policy, and monitoring the performance of those managers. The committee also advises the Board of Trustees on investment policies, including the asset allocation. The committee consists of seven members, selected for their investment expertise and judgment. Two of these members also serve on the Board of Trustees.
An independent investment consultant has been retained to assist in the management of investments. The consultant provides valuable guidance on the selection and monitoring of investment managers, allocation of assets among asset classes, management of other portfolio risk and all other aspects of portfolio management. The consultant is compensated strictly on a fee basis and receives no compensation in connection with the management of the Foundation's assets from any other sources. Currently, the investment consultant is Colonial Consulting, from New York City.
