Tony Mestres 


Tony Mestres is the president and chief executive officer of The Seattle Foundation. In this role, Tony directs the strategic counsel and support provided to more than 1,200 individual, family and corporate philanthropists and oversees the investment of more than $80 million in charitable grants annually.

With nearly $850 million in assets, The Seattle Foundation’s mission is to foster powerful, rewarding philanthropy to make King County a stronger, more vibrant community for all. Recognized for his expertise in navigating change and skill in uniting diverse interests toward a common goal, Tony is redefining The Seattle Foundation’s role in community philanthropy and civic leadership and catalyst for positive social change.

Tony joined the Foundation in 2014, following a 22-year career in the technology and communications industries. As general manager of marketing and vice president of sales at Microsoft, Tony was the business group leader responsible for worldwide sales and marketing execution of Microsoft’s Windows product line. Prior to that, in his role as a vice president of Microsoft’s Consumer Channels Group, Tony was globally responsible for managing strategic alliances and execution of Microsoft’s PC, mobile and TV Entertainment strategy with service providers and served on the chief marketing officer’s leadership team. Tony joined Microsoft in 1999, where he held multiple senior leadership roles including chief of staff for Microsoft’s Communication Sector. He began his career at BellSouth Mobile and also served as a member of the leadership team at The Walter Group, a Seattle-based venture capital and consultancy firm. 

Tony is a strong believer in the power of philanthropy. His philanthropic leadership includes more than 12 years as a partner and board member of Social Venture Partners, a 600-member organization that cultivates effective philanthropists. In addition, Tony is president emeritus of the board of directors of Kindering, a nonprofit organization serving children with special needs and their families. He has worked on Kindering’s board for more than a dozen years. Tony also serves on the boards of the Seattle Chamber of Commerce and the Seattle International Foundation. He is a graduate of Dickinson College.
