Our community is flush with generous people who want to make a difference on a global scale. But with so many nonprofits doing work around the world, it can be difficult to know where to direct your philanthropic dollars for the greatest impact. Whether you are interested in supporting AIDS prevention in Botswana, rainforests in Brazil, or schools in Afghanistan, Seattle Foundation can help direct your contribution to reliable, innovative organizations. Philanthropists can recommend grants both to U.S.-based organizations working internationally and to charitable organizations based outside the United States through partner intermediary organizations.

There are a number of ways to get involved with global philanthropy locally, including through Seattle International Foundation (SIF), a supporting organization of Seattle Foundation, which works with locally based organizations around the world. We also support many Seattle-based organizations focused on specific areas of global need.

More about Global Giving Element (pdf)

We support organizational initiatives focused on defending human rights, securing land rights, addressing climate change and global environmental issues, and advocating U.S. foreign aid efforts.

Local leadership development, disaster preparedness and stronger regional health systems can make a longer-term impact in communities around the world. Donors can support capacity-building efforts either by funding direct-service organizations or by funding intermediaries that partner with local people and organizations.

We support organizational programs focused on access to clean water, long-term housing, immunizations and health care, as well as the urgent needs of refugee camps.
