Description
Established by the Seattle Association of Black Journalists, the Scholarship fund will help students of color in the Puget Sound region who are pursuing college careers in journalism. The scholarship was established to honor Patricia Fisher, a Puget Sound native, journalist, educator and role model for her support of young people and her contributions to the community. Awards are based on scholastic achievement, financial need, community service and a commitment to a career in journalism. Scholarships range from $500-$5000. |

- African American students.
- Serious interest in print, photo or broadcast journalism.
- Scholastic achievement.
- Demonstrates financial need.
- Commitment to journalism.
- high school senior or undergraduate.
Former recipients may reapply in order to complete a BA degree. |

Scholarship Specific Essay Question
Write an essay of not less than 500 nor more than 1500 words. Tell us about yourself and why you want to be a journalist. Discuss the challenges you foresee, how you think you can contribute to the profession and how you think you can contribute to your community. |
Additional Instructions
Media Experience Please include an additional list of previous media experience which should include: Company Name/Organization, Dates, Supervisor and Contact Phone Number.
Work Samples In addition, you are strongly encouraged to include a maximum of three examples of your best work.
- Submit print and photo examples attached to a letter or legal sized piece of paper.
- Submit radio examples on standard audio cassette tape. Please use as few cassettes as possible.
- Submit television examples on videocassette. Please use as few cassettes as possible.
