The Pacific Northwest is helping millions of people in communities all over the world rise out of poverty against incredible odds. The Seattle International Foundation’s (SIF) mission is to strengthen those efforts and increase their impact.
SIF's Global Program provides direct financial support to high-impact organizations based in Washington state working to alleviate poverty around the world in the following key areas of development: economic development; education; environment; health; women’s and youth leadership; and legal and human rights. The organization takes a comprehensive approach to address critical needs around the globe, supporting both large, established organizations as well as smaller organizations working on a specific issue or region.
Through the Central America Program, SIF invests in local leadership, particularly to help raise the voice and capacity of marginalized populations including youth, indigenous communities, and women to advance SIF’s theory of change. SIF's core approach includes developing individuals' knowledge and leadership skills, strengthening the capacity of organizations working in key development areas, and building networks of agents of change to align individual action for maximum impact. The Program also supports research and advocacy in efforts for greater public policy change to address the key issues facing the region.
In addition to its grantmaking programs, SIF advances its mission through special collaborations, innovative programs and events that convene experts and stakeholders around common goals and interests. SIF recognizes partnerships and local country leadership as critical elements to successful development efforts.
