Encompass Northwest’s programs teach child development, family management and positive discipline while providing opportunities for community involvement.
Proven Success
Encompass begins with the understanding that parents are each child’s first and most important teachers. By strengthening their efforts to provide a stable nurturing home environment, they are supporting parents as they prepare their children to succeed in school and in life.
Accessibility and Cultural Competency
The number of Latino families served in their Family Support Programs has increased. They have hired several bilingual staff members, have developed Spanish versions of parenting classes, and produced translated versions of all printed materials for their website. Their Parent-Child Interaction Training (PCIT) program is offered in Spanish. They are the only provider of this program in Spanish.
Use of Best Practices
Their programs are based on research in the fields of child development, family management and abuse prevention. Programs are evaluated using widely accepted tools such as the Devereaux Early Childhood Assessment (DECA) and the Eyberg Child Behavior Inventory. Their preschool classes utilize the research-based Creative Curriculum for Preschool.
Collaboration
Encompass recently initiated One VOICE (Valley Organizations inCollective Effort), a new coalition that brings together more than two dozen community groups to serve families in need while managing limited resources and avoiding duplication of services. On June 4th they hosted a resource fair focused on summer care needs. 30 organizations participated in the fair.
Sustainability
Encompass has a diverse funding base. Their fundraising strategy includes special events, an annual appeal, a major-gifts program, grantwriting, entrepreneurial activities in fee-based services and contracts with public and private organizations. Several programs which were previously free of charge to everyone are now offered on a sliding fee scale for those participants who can afford to pay. They have also added two new fundraising events with targeted guest lists for expanded donor outreach and development to include residents and businesses of Issaquah and Sammamish.
