In honor of Memorial Day, The Seattle Foundation's research team has identified a number of organizations that support individuals in service to our country.
National:
Operation Homefront (
www.operationhomefront.net) provides emergency financial and other assistance to the families of our service members and wounded warriors.
Homes for Our Troops (
www.homesforourtroops.org) assists severely injured Servicemen and Servicewomen and their immediate families by raising donations of money, building materials and professional labor and to coordinate the process of building a home that provides maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently.
Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust (
www.cst.dav.org) supports physical and psychological rehabilitation programs, meets the special needs of veterans with specific disabilities – such as amputation and blindness – and aids and shelters homeless veterans.
Local:
Fisher House VA Puget Sound (
www.fisherhousevaps.org) provides a “home away from home” for families of Veterans receiving care at VA Puget Sound Health Care System and families of active duty personnel who have loved ones in other area facilities. Guests are able to be near their loved ones while having a comfortable, peaceful place to find rest and support for themselves.
Northwest Chapter of Paralyzed Veterans of America (
www.nwpva.org) a member chapter of Paralyzed Veterans of America, advocates on behalf of veterans suffering from spinal cord injuries and provides opportunities for promoting health, employment, and recreation.
