White House Council for Community Solutions

Date: Dec 9, 2011
In October, TSF President & CEO Norman Rice and Vice President of Community Leadership Michael Brown were in Washington D.C. for a meeting of the White House Council for Community Solutions. The meeting focused on solutions that address the needs of “Opportunity Youth”—young people age 16-24 who are disconnected from both education and employment. The Council proposed to the President three ways to meet this growing national need: 1. develop a national, branded campaign embracing hard-to-ignore facts matched with a doable, motivating call to action to youth and citizens; 2. conduct a major push to employers and the volunteer service community on pathways to employment for Opportunity Youth; and 3. initiate a major push by the social and government sectors to increase capacity and outcomes in the social sector by recognizing a third-party-sponsored Opportunity Youth Incentive Fund launched to support a competitive fund for “needle-moving collaboratives” for Opportunity Youth.
