Haiti

Haiti will continue to need considerable financial support as it works to rebuild the country after a 7.0-magnitude earthquake on January 12, 2010. The Seattle Foundation has created a pooled fund and is in the process of allocating the funds. The following are a few sample organizations currently working or funding in Haiti:

  • ActionAid has worked in Haiti since 1996—it provided emergency relief support and will also fund rebuilding projects  
  • American Jewish World Service is collecting funds to support its network of on-the-ground grantees in Haiti 
  • Doctors Without Borders has been working on medical projects in Haiti and is currently providing medical support to Haitians
  • Grassroots International partners with local Haitian organizations with an emphasis on social justice and will distribute funds to these organizations for relief and rebuilding efforts 
  • Lambi Fund of Haiti works to strengthen civil society in Haiti and will be focused on recovery and rebuilding 
  • Partners in Health runs Zanmi Lasante, one of the largest nongovernmental health care providers in Haiti 
  • World Vision has worked in Haiti for 30 years and has hundreds of staff on the ground
