The Seattle Foundation's GiveBIG is a one-day, online charitable giving event to inspire people to give generously to nonprofit organizations who make our region a stronger, more vibrant community for all. GiveBIG is designed to raise money for the more than 1,600 nonprofit organizations that are profiled on our website. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How does GiveBIG work?
All donations made through The Seattle Foundation's website on GiveBIG day will receive a percentage of the matching funds (or "stretch") pool. This percentage depends on the size of the stretch pool and how much is raised in total donations on GiveBIG day. In 2014, the stretch pool was $1,000,000 and the total amount of stretch-eligible donations was $12,800,000. The stretch percentage worked out to 8.3% (or approximately 8 cents on the dollar).
Once you know the GiveBIG stretch pool percentage, you can multiply that with the total amount your organization raises on GiveBIG day to find out how much you will receive from the GiveBIG stretch pool.
Do all donations qualify for GiveBIG "stretch" dollars?
We will "stretch" all donations up to $2,500 per donor, per organization. The reason we are limiting the amount that qualifies for the stretch pool is to help these funds go further for organizations that rely on smaller donations.
When is GiveBIG?
GiveBIG 2015 will be on May 5, 2015, from midnight to midnight (Pacific Time).
Can any NPO participate in GiveBIG?
If you are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (or have a 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor) and have a profile on our website, then you are eligible to participate. Your organization must have an active Click & Pledge account to participate.
If your organization does not currently have a profile, your organization must provide at least 50% of their services within King County. There are no restrictions based on nonprofit size. Please submit a new profile query if you are interested in having a profile on our website.
Fiscally Sponsored Organizations
Eligible fiscally sponsored organizations who do not have a profile on our website are required to sign up for an online profile by February 2, 2015.
Eligible 501(c)(3) organizations who do not have a profile on our website are required to sign up for an online profile and a Click & Pledge online donations account by March 2, 2015.
What is the size of the matching funds (or "stretch") pool?
The stretch pool for 2014 was $1 million, thanks to contributions by generous local companies, individual donors and The Seattle Foundation. Please sign up for the GiveBIG Blog to get the latest information about the stretch pool and to get tips and techniques for making the most of GiveBIG 2015 for your organization.
Does it cost anything to participate?
There is no cost for nonprofits to participate in GiveBIG. However, online credit card donations for GiveBIG 2015 are subject to a 2.85% per transaction processing fee by our online donations provider and credit card companies for most credit cards. Some credit cards, usually rewards or business credit cards, carry an additional non-qualified fee of 1%. The Seattle Foundation does not receive a percentage of gifts for supporting and overseeing GiveBIG and does not receive any income from credit card transactions. The "stretch" amount will be determined based on the total donation amount, before the processing fee, and donors will receive a tax deduction on the full donation amount.
What is a Golden Ticket?
A Golden Ticket is an opportunity for your nonprofit organization to receive an additional $1,000 on GiveBIG. Throughout the day on GiveBIG day, donors will be chosen at random from the online donations made through www.seattlefoundation.org to have an additional $1,000 given to the nonprofit that received their donation. Golden Tickets are not part of the stretch pool and are in addition to any portion of the stretch pool an organization receives. Please sign up for the GiveBIG Blog to get the latest information about the stretch pool.
Do donors have to be fundholders/members of The Seattle Foundation to participate in GiveBIG?
No. Anyone with an internet connection and a credit card can make a donation on GiveBIG day. You do not need to register on our website to make a donation.

Do I need a password to update my organization's profile?
- Yes, you do need to sign up for a login and password to edit your organization’s profile. You can do this at www.seattlefoundation.org/pages/login.aspx.
I forgot my username and password to update my organization's profile.
Please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to get your login information to update your profile.
- What URL should my organization use to give donors a direct link to our online profile?
As you get the word out to your supporters about GiveBIG, we definitely encourage you to use your organization’s direct URL in donor letters, emails, Facebook posts, etc. This will help drive your fans and supporters to your organization’s specific donation page on GiveBIG day in May, 2015. You can find your URL by searching for your organization on www.seattlefoundation.org/npos/Pages/FindANonprofit.aspx, and when on your nonprofit profile page, looking in the address bar. Anything that is after the “aspx” is not necessary for your supporters to find your page, and you can simplify your URL by deleting anything after that. Your “clean” URL will look something like this: www.seattlefoundation.org/npos/Pages/YOURORGANIZATION.aspx.
How does my organization receive online donations on GiveBIG day?
The Seattle Foundation partners with Click & Pledge to process donations made through our website. Click & Pledge offers the Foundation and the nonprofits on our site a special rate (2.85% per transaction for most credit cards) and has waived all setup and monthly fees.
All nonprofits with profiles on The Seattle Foundation's website are required sign up with Click & Pledge to participate. Organizations receive donations directly into their bank accounts and are able to see in real-time the donations as they come in on GiveBIG day, among a number of other benefits to nonprofits. In addition, nonprofits can use all Click & Pledge services on their own site for no extra fee.
Do nonprofit organizations receive 100% of the donations? Does The Seattle Foundation take any percentage?
The Seattle Foundation does not take any percentage from gifts made through our website. Donations made through our website are subject to a 2.85% processing fee, but our online donations provider, Click & Pledge, has waived any setup or monthly fees for nonprofits on The Seattle Foundation’s website.
Will we receive donor contact information?
You will be able to get donor information as donations are made in real time by logging into your Click & Pledge account.
Will we be able to track our progress during the day?
You will be able to get donation information as donations are made in real time on GiveBIG day by logging into your Click & Pledge account.
Will donors receive an auto receipt at the time they make the online contribution? Will they receive notification later?
An email acknowledgement that is a valid tax receipt will be sent automatically when a donation is completed, so you should not send them a tax receipt for their gift.
What methods of payment are accepted?
Donations made by credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express) via Click & Pledge through The Seattle Foundation's website will qualify for the stretch pool. Because they cannot be tracked through our website, donations in other forms will not count toward the totals for the stretch dollars.
Click & Pledge
My organization has received some unusual charges on our Click & Pledge account after GiveBIG. What is going on?
In 2014, we heard from 3 of the 1,600 organizations with profiles on our website of unusual charges (unusual amounts, unknown donors, countries outside the U.S.) going through their Click & Pledge donation pages. These charges are an annoyance and are likely the results of what is called carding--where credit card thieves test the validity of stolen credit cards. Nonprofit organizations are targeted because we often have the most easy-to-use checkout pages on the web, and this type of activity is, unfortunately, common. This has nothing to do with Click & Pledge's website security, which is of the highest level--and donor information is not at risk. TransFirst Bank and Click & Pledge have standard procedures in place for these situations and are addressing the issue in their systems. These appear to be isolated events, but if you have noticed any odd transactions, please do the following: 1. Call TransFirst Bank at (800) 654-9256 and let them know you suspect there are fraudulent transactions on your account. It will speed things up if you have your merchant ID when you call (you can find this on your TransFirst statement). 2. Submit a free support ticket to Click & Pledge (be sure to mention TSF GiveBIG and Potential Fraud in the subject line to expedite your request). 3. Email us at email@example.com and include as many details as you have.
Is there a cost associated with establishing a Click & Pledge account?
- There is no fee to sign up for a Click & Pledge account through our website, and no monthly fees.
- Who is our best contact to follow up with questions about Click & Pledge?
- Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or fill out a Click & Pledge support ticket at http://help.clickandpledge.com/customer/portal/emails/new. Be sure to use "TSF GiveBIG" in the subject line to expedite your request.
How do I know if my organization's Click & Pledge account is working?
The best way to find out if your Click & Pledge account is working is to test it by making a small donation. We strongly recommend that you test out your organization's online donation function no later than Wednesday, April 15. Please click here for step-by-step testing instructions.
How do I find my transactions on Click & Pledge?
To find details about donations to your organization made through Click & Pledge, please log in to your Click & Pledge account. Choose Account Info > Reports > Search and Download. Enter the date range at the bottom of the screen and choose Search Transactions. Click Export. You can open or save the file and access the data using Microsoft Excel.
Does my organization have to sign up for Click & Pledge to be able to receive donations on GiveBIG day?
Yes. To participate in GiveBIG on May 5, 2015, you are required to sign up for Click & Pledge before March 2.
- Can we sign up for Click & Pledge even if our own in-house credit card processing program is not through the same company?
- You may want to check with your organization to learn if you have any restrictions on the number of merchant accounts it is able to have. Click & Pledge does not have any restrictions. Also, often due to credit card processing and other fees, Click & Pledge may even be a less expensive option for your organization since we have been able to negotiate a lower transaction rate and no signup or monthly charges for you as a nonprofit with a profile on our website.
