The Seattle Foundation's GiveBIG is a one-day, online charitable giving event to inspire people to give generously to nonprofit organizations who make our region a stronger, more vibrant community for all. GiveBIG is designed to raise money for the more than 1,400 nonprofit organizations that are profiled on our website. We’ll use contributions from GiveBIG sponsors to match a percentage of the individual contributions made through our website.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
We are currently accepting new profile queries from organizations with offices in King County and who provide a significant level of service in King County. Please visit the For Nonprofits

GIVEBIG 2013 SPONSORS
We are so grateful for the support that so many companies, individuals and foundations have shown for our community through their support of GiveBIG—through contributions to the Stretch Pool, as well as through in-kind support. Please make sure to thank this year's amazing GiveBIG sponsors:
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How does GiveBIG work?
All donations made through The Seattle Foundation's website on GiveBIG day will receive a percentage of the matching funds (or "stretch") pool. This percentage depends on the size of the stretch pool and how much is raised in total donations on GiveBIG day. For example, if the stretch pool is $500,000 and the total amount raised that day is $2,000,000, then the stretch percentage is 25% (or 25 cents on the dollar).
Once you know the GiveBIG Stretch Pool percentage, you can multiply that with the total amount your organization raises on May 15 to find out how much you will receive from the GiveBIG Stretch Pool.
Do all donations qualify for GiveBIG "stretch" dollars?
We will "stretch" all donations up to $25,000 per donor, per organization. This was the first year we set a limit on the amount that qualifies for funds from the GiveBIG "stretch" pool. The reason we chose to do this is to help the "stretch" pool go further for organizations that rely on smaller donations.
When is the next GiveBIG?
GiveBIG 2013 was May 15, 2013. We have not set a date yet for GiveBIG 2014 but it will be in May or June.
Does it cost anything to participate?
There is no cost for nonprofits to participate in GiveBIG. However, online credit card donations are subject to a 2.95% per transaction processing fee by our online donations provider and credit card companies for most credit cards. Some credit cards, usually rewards or business credit cards, carry an additional non-qualified fee of 1%. The Seattle Foundation does not receive a percentage of gifts for supporting and overseeing GiveBIG and does not receive any income from credit card transactions. The "stretch" amount will be determined based on the total donation amount, before the processing fee, and donors will receive a tax deduction on the full donation amount.
How does my organization receive online donations on GiveBIG day?
The Seattle Foundation partners with Click & Pledge to process donations made through our website. Click & Pledge offers the Foundation and the nonprofits on our site a special rate (2.95% per transaction for most credit cards) and has waived all setup and monthly fees.
All nonprofits with profiles on The Seattle Foundation's website are required sign up with Click & Pledge to participate. Organizations receive donations directly into their bank accounts and are able to see in real-time the donations as they come in on GiveBIG day, among a number of other benefits to nonprofits. In addition, nonprofits can use all Click & Pledge services on their own site as well, for no extra fee.
For the first two years of GiveBIG, we managed all contributions for all non-Click & Pledge organizations through a master account. GiveBIG has proven very successful and the volume of gifts more than doubled from 2011 to 2012. This growth made it very difficult, from an administrative and accounting perspective, for The Seattle Foundation to manage these contributions through a master account. This can be alleviated when each participating nonprofit has its own Click & Pledge account, which also ensures the organizations receive their funds and access to donor information more quickly.
What is the deadline to sign up for Click & Pledge?
The deadline to sign up for Click & Pledge was March 1, 2013 for GiveBIG 2013. We are not currently accepting new sign-ups for profiles or Click & Pledge for GiveBIG 2014.
What if my organization chooses not to sign up for Click & Pledge?
We are happy to continue to have your organization's profile on our website if your organization chooses not to participate in GiveBIG. In that case, we will remove your organization's profile from the website about two weeks prior to the event.
How do I stay informed about GiveBIG?
The best way to keep up to date on GiveBIG is to subscribe to our GiveBIG Blog for Nonprofits. We'll post the latest information about the date and stretch pool, as well as tips, messages, helpful links and reminders. Read and subscribe by going to http://givebig.wordpress.com.
Why did we receive a refund on our July 2013 Click & Pledge statement?
Your organization may have received a credit from TransFirst through direct deposit in July 2013. The Seattle Foundation had listed our fees for GiveBIG 2013 as a flat 2.95%. We learned after the event that some credit cards might incur additional fees, called non-qualified fees. These non-qualified fees usually indicate certain types of rewards or business credit cards were used.
The Seattle Foundation chose to refund the May 2013 non-qualified fees and we have updated our website to include the non-qualified fee information. If your organization did incur these fees (many did not) in May, fees of $1 or more were refunded in July.
You may occasionally see non-qualified fees on your Click & Pledge statements. These fees are part of the arrangement with Click & Pledge.
