The Seattle Foundation's GiveBIG is a one-day, online charitable giving event to inspire people to give generously to nonprofit organizations who make our region a stronger, more vibrant community for all. GiveBIG is designed to raise money for the more than 1,400 nonprofit organizations that are profiled on our website. We’ll use contributions from GiveBIG sponsors to match a percentage of the individual contributions made through our website.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
To participate in GiveBIG 2013, your nonprofit organization needs to:
- Have a profile on our website
- Have an account with our online donations processor, Click & Pledge
The deadline to sign up for a profile and for Click & Pledge was Friday, March 1, 2013. If you have any questions about your profile or Click & Pledge account, please contact webprofile@seattlefoundation.org.

How does GiveBIG work?
All donations made through The Seattle Foundation's website on GiveBIG day will receive a percentage of the matching funds (or "stretch") pool. This percentage depends on the size of the stretch pool and how much is raised in total donations on GiveBIG day. For example, if the stretch pool is $500,000 and the total amount raised that day is $2,000,000, then the stretch percentage is 25% (or 25 cents on the dollar).
Once you know the GiveBIG Stretch Pool percentage, you can multiply that with the total amount your organization raises on May 15 to find out how much you will receive from the GiveBIG Stretch Pool.

Do all donations qualify for GiveBIG "stretch" dollars?
We will "stretch" all donations up to $25,000 per donor, per organization. This is the first year that we are setting a limit on the amount that qualifies for funds from the GiveBIG "stretch" pool. The reason we chose to do this is to help the "stretch" pool go further for organizations that rely on smaller donations.

GiveBIG will take place on May 15, 2013.

Does it cost anything to participate?
There is no cost for nonprofits to participate in GiveBIG. However, online credit card donations are subject to a 2.95% per transaction processing fee by our online donations provider and credit card companies. The Seattle Foundation does not receive a percentage of gifts for supporting and overseeing GiveBIG and does not receive any income from credit card transactions. The "stretch" amount will be determined based on the total donation amount, before the processing fee, and donors will receive a tax deduction on the full donation amount.

How does my organization receive online donations on GiveBIG day?
The Seattle Foundation partners with Click & Pledge to process donations made through our website. Click & Pledge offers the Foundation and the nonprofits on our site a special rate (2.95% per transaction) and has waived all setup and monthly fees.
All nonprofits with profiles on The Seattle Foundation's website are required to have signed up with Click & Pledge by March 1 to participate in GiveBIG. Organizations will receive donations directly into their bank accounts and will be able to see in real-time the donations as they come in on GiveBIG day, among a number of other benefits to nonprofits. In addition, nonprofits can use all Click & Pledge services on their own site as well, for no extra fee.
For the first two years of GiveBIG, we managed all contributions for all non-Click & Pledge organizations through a master account. GiveBIG has proven very successful and the volume of gifts more than doubled from 2011 to 2012. This growth makes it very difficult, from an administrative and accounting perspective, for The Seattle Foundation to manage these contributions through a master account. This can be alleviated when each participating nonprofit has its own Click & Pledge account, which also ensures the organizations receive their funds and access to donor information more quickly.

What if my organization chooses not to sign up for Click & Pledge?
We are happy to continue to have your organization's profile on our website. However, all nonprofit profiles that are not linked to a Click & Pledge account will be temporarily removed from our website before GiveBIG and will be restored about a week after GiveBIG.
