Overview
The Seattle Foundation's Grantmaking Program invests in nonprofit organizations in King County that contribute to a healthy and vibrant community. We aim to build a healthy community by supporting effective and efficient organizations in all seven elements of our Healthy Community Framework. The Foundation's
Healthy Community Report examines the well-being of our community and this work informs our funding priorities and shapes our grantmaking activities. The Seattle Foundation is particularly focused on addressing disparities by equalizing opportunity and access among individuals in King County and seeks to invest in organizations that serve low-income or otherwise disadvantaged populations.
Please note that The Seattle Foundation's Grantmaking Program does not invest in organizations working internationally. Learn more about the Foundation's
Global Giving activities.
The Seattle Foundation reviews applications by element on an annual cycle. We believe this increases the efficiency and effectiveness of our grantmaking activities. This structure aligns our investments more directly to our Healthy Community Framework as well as provides more engagement and partnering opportunities for fundholders and other contributors.
A lead staff member guides the strategy and grantmaking within each element area. Each element lead works closely with a committee of Seattle Foundation donors, board members, community representatives and nonprofit leaders throughout the process. The Seattle Foundation board of directors approves all final grant recommendations on a quarterly basis.
The timeline for Foundation staff to review grant applications ranges from four months to approximately eight months. This timeframe allows us to spend more time working with our donors and sharing funding opportunities and inviting them to contribute to organizations the Foundation is considering for funding.
The Seattle Foundation is committed to providing general operating support. Organizations will apply within the element where their primary work falls. Applications within each element will be reviewed on an annual basis as follows:
Upcoming Deadlines
