Neighborhoods & Communities

Grant deadline: January 14, 2013

Annual Grants Program

The Seattle Foundation is making modifications to our 2013 Grantmaking Program. The Seattle Foundation has been engaged in a strategic planning process, which includes re-examining our current grantmaking and community leadership efforts and working in stronger collaboration with donors to increase our impact in the communities we serve. In 2013, our grantmaking program will look similar, but there will be some changes in each element as we prepare to transition to a new grantmaking program in 2014. Early next year, we will conduct focus groups with key stakeholders, such as nonprofits, donors and peer funders, to help guide the development of a new grantmaking program to be launched in 2014.

Guidelines for The Seattle Foundation’s 2013 Neighborhoods & Communities Annual Grants Program are described below.

Eligibility and Funding Criteria

Organizations meeting all of the following criteria will be eligible for grants in 2013 from The Seattle Foundation’s Neighborhoods & Communities Annual Grants Program:

  • organizations that received grants from The Seattle Foundation's Grantmaking Program in 2011 or 2012;
  • organizations that meet one or both of The Seattle Foundation's priority funding strategies within the Neighborhoods & Communities Element:
    1. Civic Engagement and Community Action: Support organizations or programs that increase civic engagement, develop local leadership, or encourage community organizing and advocacy.
    2. Community Connections: Support organizations or programs that build relationships and trust within and/or across communities (geographic and non-geographic).

Schedule and Application Instructions

The Seattle Foundation invites eligible organizations to complete a streamlined application process that includes: 1) updating a profile on The Seattle Foundation’s website; 2) providing updated contact and financial information; and 3) providing a brief narrative summarizing accomplishments and challenges faced during the past 12 months and outlook for the upcoming year.

If your organization fits the above criteria, please contact Aaron Robertson at (206) 515-2109 or a.robertson@seattlefoundation.org for more information and to receive the 2013 online application.

All proposals and back-up materials must be received at The Seattle Foundation by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2013. Seattle Foundation staff will review proposals and contact organizations for more information as needed. Final grant decisions will be made in March 2013. Recipients will be notified at that time and the funds will be awarded.
