Balagan Theatre Programs

Broadway acclaimed and Tony Award Winning Musicals: for example in the 2011-12 season the regional premiere of Spring Awakening was performed for 20 sold out performances and toured to the Historic Lincoln Theatre in Mount Vernon Washington.

Balagan Theatre produces new-works with emerging playwrights: for example in the 2011-12 season Balagan is producing the world premiere of The Myth Project, touring for ten weeks across King County to community parks with free performances and reaching up to 4,000 people.

Balagan Theatre co-produces with local performing arts groups; for example in the 2011-12 season Balagan collaborated with A Curly Stache Productions on the production [Title of Show] with a total of 8 productions over two weeks.

Recent Successes and Current Challenges

SUCCESSES
Balagan Theatre recently extended the run of Spring Awakening. After eleven sold out performances in January of 2012, reaching more than 2100 people, ten additional performances were added in April 2012, in total reaching an anticipated 1800 people, in addition to a four performance tour to the Historic Lincoln Theatre in Mt. Vernon. This production increased Balagan's reach to new populations, affirmed the mission, and brought artistic acclaim to the company.

NEEDS
Balagan is solidifying The Erickson Theatre as a community center for the arts in Capitol Hill, serving patrons and arts groups from across the Puget Sound area. To maintain a healthy and steady revenue stream (both contributed and earned) and to continue 52 weeks of accessible artistic programming, Balagan must build on the capacity of the Erickson to increase access to the arts and the artistic capabilities of the space.
