Charismatic Leader Films’ major current project is Love in the year 2000, a 35mm science fiction short film starring Greta Wilson and Cherilynn Brooks.

Sometime in the future, a relationship representative named Lucky saves prospective couples the time and drudgery of courtship by professionally standing in for one party and evaluating the level of likely interest on behalf of her client. She finds herself in an unusual predicament and a role for which she never rehearsed, when she is assigned to meet Lena Nigari, a young woman doing something unheard of — going on a date herself.

L2k was co-written, co-produced and directed by David Miller. It was co-produced and cinematographed by Derick Avitt of Renton. Other paid artists include stars Greta Wilson and Cherilynn Brooks, Gaffer Shawn Anderson, Sound Recorder Michael Kleven, Production Designer Regan MacStravic, Costume Designer Julia Evanovitch, co-writer and Production Artist David Drake, Production Artist Robert Rini, Sound Designer Vincent Gates, Composer Marcus Oldham and Colorist John Davidson.

At more than $150,000, L2k's total budget exceeds that of many independent features. Pending its completion in late 2012, L2k will be released to film festivals in 2013.

Recent Successes and Current Challenges

Love in the year 2000 has been in progress for over five years at a cost of more than $100,000 cash and in kind to date. L2k was filmed in May 2011 with support from Panavision's New Filmmaker Equipment Grant. With an in kind value of $75,000, the Panavision grant has been awarded previously to filmmakers including Steven Soderbergh and Paul Thomas Anderson. We also received a 4Culture grant in 2008, as well as more than $10,000 in donations from individuals. Production has included more than 24 participating artists, 12 paid artists, and more than 800 volunteer and internship hours.

Our most pressing need is funds to support post-production and completion of Love in the year 2000. Funding received will be used to pay for sound and mixing, composition and recording of a musical score, and preparation & creation of 35mm film release prints for submission to film festivals worldwide and presentation in King County in Fall and Winter 2012.
