Community House Mental Health Agency

Description

Community House Mental Health Agency believes in the integraton of low-income mentally ill persons in the fabric of our society by respecting both our clients and surrounding community.  We do this by providing 184 units of housing options, 24 hour crisis access, a full range of case management serivices, financial counseling, psychiatric/physician services, peer support, and vocational opporortunities for all our our clients.  Approximately, 50% of the clients served at Community House have been homeless at some point prior to entering agency services.  Most referrals to the program com from hospitals, jails, and shelters.

Mission Statement
We hold ourselves responsible as instruments of social change to the larger community for creating a society which not only tolerates, but understands and accepts people who have a severe and persistent behavioral health issues.  This philosophy serves as the basis of our treatment program, which is individually designed in partnership with clients to meet basic life needs such as housing, food, clothing, psychiatrica and general medical care. The fulfillment of these basic needs provides the foundation for meeting primary social goals of belonging, having a network of support, employment options, and educating the larger community about people with a mental illness.

Community House Mental Health Agency Programs

Housing Options
Community House offers a full continium of housing options for our clients from 24 hour supervised licensed boarding home care, to completely independent apartment living.  All based on our client level of needs.

Project Nutrition
Community House realizes the vital need for secure food sources for our clients.  We offer and provide a 5 day a week meal at our outpatient site and weekly food bank to assist clients with these needs.

Psychiatric Medication Services
Community House realizes the central role medication serves in helping people recover from their mental illness.  We provided daily medication monitoring for those in need of intensive services to remain on their medications.

Recent Successes and Current Challenges

Community House recently opened a new 24 unit apartment building called Brierwood Apartments.  This project has on-site case management services for clients moving in who have come to the agency from Western State Hospital.  We are able to provide a significant amount of support to ensure these clients are successful in their return to the community.

Our challenge is that the need is so great that this building filled up within 3 months and has had virtually no vacancies since its inception.  We are currently attempting to build another such project on Capital Hill, but State funding has been virtually non-exisitent.  We are looking to sell this Capital Hill property for this project in order to move operations to another site to be determined.  We will need addtional resources to make this move.
