Recent Successes and Current Challenges
Over the last year our temple property received a complete make over, including new windows, painting, new back steps, new back fence and major improvements to our garden front and back. The back garden has become a local attraction and functions as a small park for the North Beacon Hill Community. Rev. Genko Kathy Blackman continues with her prison outreach to King County Jail and Monroe Reformatory. Rev. Genjo Marinello has become active in the Zen Peacemakers organization and attended the Bearing Witness Retreat at Auschwitz/Birkenau. He has also done prison outreach to the Walla Walla Penitentiary, worked with the Seattle Chaplin Support Group to the Occupy Movement, and has been recently active with the Faith Action Network to promote stronger gun control legislation. This coming year we hope to complete further property improvements and expand our Zen residential practice program.
