Easter Seals Washington Programs
Camp Stand By Me provides a unique and unforgettable experience for children and adults with disabilities. Its accessible facilities, fulltime registered nurse, and large counselor to camper ratios allow every camper, regardless of ability level, to participate in all camp activities. Campers experience swimming, archery, arts and crafts, boating, campouts, horseback riding, and much, much more. For many of our campers, Camp Stand By Me is the only time of year where they are fully included and are given the opportunity to socialize with their peers. The results are dramatic: campers gain self esteem, skills, and friendships that cross over into their daily lives. Most importantly, they enjoy a multi-sensory, outdoor recreational experience that would be impossible without Camp Stand By Me.
Camp Stand By Me operates year-round, providing weeklong summer camp sessions, weekend respite sessions, and family camps. Our consistent delivery of services provides immeasurable support to families, parents, and caregivers. Caring for a person with significant disabilities is a fulltime job, and family members need a break from care giving to get much needed rest, recharge their batteries, and spend time with other family members and friends. Respite has been proven to be a key in keeping families together and in actually improving the quality of care provided; and, Camp Stand By Me provides the most unique respite experience possible. While caregivers rest and recharge, their family members with disabilities aren’t merely watched over - they are being challenged to reach their full potential.
