Everett Public Schools Foundation Programs

Three critical programs of assistance include:

  1. All Day Kindergarten tuition assistance is provided to low income families, many of whom speak English as their second language.  We provide $45,000 in assistance with an impact to an average of 28 students and their families. This assistance helps to leverage the ability of the school district to maintain full day programs in those schools of higher poverty.
  2. Summer School and online class tuition assistance helps students who are credit deficient and who would struggle to pay the extra tuition for credit recovery.  This assistance helps our students get back on track to graduate on time.  We provide $32,500 in assistance throughout the year.
  3. Stuff the Bus for Kids is an annual effort to provide over 1,700 filled backpacks with school supplies for our neediest students.  We work with each school to identify the projected need each spring and then work with a number of community partners including Boeing, Costco, Molina Healthcare, Durham School Services and World Vision to raise the supplies needed to make this effort happen each year.  This will be our fourth year of organizing this effort so that each of our students can start the school year off with the tools they need to be successful.

Recent Successes and Current Challenges

One of our new successes this year was the hosting of the 3rd Annual High School and Beyond event at our three comprehensive high schools in the district.  The Foundation provided the funding for speakers, transportation and food for these events that averaged 2,000 attendees each.  All elementary and middle school students were invited with their families and encouraged to take school buses from their home schools to the high school to participate.  The speakers were inspirational and encouraged achievement in our students.  Included in the evening were college booths, career speakers, and presenters available to address college and career readiness for our students.

One of our most pressing needs at this time of year is funding for our summer school tuition assistance program.  Success coordinators at each of the high schools identify candidates who would benefit from our tuition assistance program to either retrieve credit to graduate with their class this year, or help to set the student back on the path for on-time graduation.  We want each of our students to have access to this assistance who need the help and for whom the only barrier would be paying for the credit. We are looking to build funding capacity for this program during the spring and summer.
