Evoke Productions

Description

Evoke Productions, a producing entity formed in 2006, organizes an annual dance concert, Full Tilt, a performance of quality contemporary dance that provides collaborative relationships with local choreographers and performance opportunities for many local dancers.  Evoke allows for audiences to come to one place to see inventive, diverse, live choreographic endeavors with talented, passionate dancers performing these works who would likely otherwise not have the chance to work with these choreographers.  Our choreographers appreciate the ability to find new dancers to connect with and collaborate with and dancers, who otherwise are having a difficult time breaking the the fold, are able to enjoy new opportunities and forge new relationships.  Evoke creates paid work for local choreographers and brings dancers and dance makers together and gives the Seattle community an opportunity to see a variety of high quality dance works of varying styles (modern, hip hop, jazz).  Evoke Productions is also increasing their audience base by participating in benefits and festivals such as the Shorecrest High School Dance Team Benefit performance, Physical Poetry, and the Bellevue Arts Fair.

Mission Statement
Evoke Productions’ mission is to provide opportunities and venues for talented dancers and choreographers to present their passion for contemporary dance in the Seattle area.

Evoke Productions Programs

The major program for our organization is our annual dance production called Full Tilt.  We hire five or six choreographers, organize a dance audition, coordinate the audition with the choreographers choosing dancers for their pieces, arrange and pay for rehearsals, and produce a two evening/four performance concert.  We have successfully enlisted the choreographic talents of many well known local choreographers such as  Wade Madsen, Deborah Wolf, and Michele Miller (Cornish College professors),  Mark Haim (former University of Washington faculty), Jason Ohlberg, Michael Rioux, and many others.  In addition to presenting Modern and Contemporary dance styles, we have also included Hip Hop and Jazz styles with choreography by Nick & Anna Golla, Rex Kinney, and Nancy Cranbourne.  Evoke Productions/Full Tilt is supporting the development of local dancers into local choreographers by producing choreography by past performers.   The number of audition participants has steadily increased over the years which speaks to the importance of offering audition opportunities to dancers in our community and the attraction of working with these local choreographers.

Recent Successes and Current Challenges

A recent success for our organization is the doubling of our audience base for our Full Tilt annual production.  We accomplished this by changing our performance format to two shows per evening instead of our past format of a single show per evening for two nights.  We successfully filled the audience for all four shows.  This increased our income although we reduced our ticket prices slightly this year.

A goal in the near future for our organization is to give compensation to all our dancers.  We would also like to increase our budget for choreographers as many choreographers have graciously reduced their fees for us in the past.
