FaithTrust Institute

Description

FaithTrust Institute is a multifaith, multicultural training and education organization. People in crisis often look to their faith leaders for guidance and assistance. Religious values of justice and equality summon us to affirm the dignity and worth of every human being and to affirm the right of each person to live without fear or threat of violence. Our religious traditions obligate us to work towards an end to sexual and domestic violence in our individual communities and in society at large. FaithTrust Institute provides faith leaders and faith-based organizations with the knowledge they need to be a source of strength and healing for those facing sexual and domestic violence.

Mission Statement
FaithTrust Institute provides faith leaders and community advocates with the tools and knowledge they need to address the religious and cultural issues related to abuse.

Clergy and other religious and lay leaders receive training that addresses:Warning signs, patterns, emergent situations and legal issues. Basic do's and don't's for working with battered women. Ethical and pastoral considerations, e.g., what must be reported to whom and when to report. How to use valuable secular resources and collaborate with community leaders. Secular advocates and leaders receive training that addresses: How to collaborate with community religious leaders. How to turn persons perceived as barriers into allies through relationship building and collaborative strategies. How to educate religious leaders and build trust that enables them to direct victims to secular programs.

FaithTrust Institute offers training, consultation and educational resources to help faith and community leaders understand and address issues surrounding teen relationship violence. Resources include an educational DVD program addressing healthy teen relationships: Love - All That and More: A Six-Session Curriculum on Healthy Relationships.

FaithTrust Institute works to increase awareness and provide religious institutions of all faiths guidance with which to reduce incidences of abuse by clergy and religious leaders. In-depth training for institutional leaders. Congregation follow-up and counseling. We also provide a DVD training program on appropriate boundaries for clergy and other religious leaders.

Recent Successes and Current Challenges

FaithTrust Institute received the Mary Byron Celebrating Solutions Award for our work on addressing domestic violence in Muslim families, specifically the development of the first DVD educational program addressing these issues.

To reach more people and organization who are in need of FaithTrust Insititute's training and education we are developing series of webinars. We are seeking funding to assist with the development and implementation of these webinars including these topics: healthy teen relationships, child abuse, safe and healthy families, domestic violence, healthy and appropriate boundaries for clergy and spiritual teachers.
