French Immersion School of Washington

Description

FISW is a preschool - 5th grade elementary school in Bellevue. Our students are taught in French 75% of the time, and in English 25% of the time. FISW blends the curriculum from the French Ministry of Education with the best of Washington State, creating a nurturing yet rigorous program that combines the strengths of both methods and philosophies.

Children from all over the world (currently, 19 different nationalities) experience this educational system, and join a community where tolerance, understanding and respect for differences are the norm. Our children graduate with a world view that has been broadened and enriched both intellectually and culturally.

In this unique and dynamic community, children discover their own abilities and talents. Our curriculum includes a rich program of diverse activities, and the small student/teacher ratio provides the youngest of our students with the caring, nurturing environment they need to flourish. This small student/teacher ratio continues as children progress through the school and, in doing so, ensures that our students receive the attention they need to succeed. Our structured curriculum encourages each child’s academic and social development and provides a very special place for children to learn and grow.

Mission Statement

French Immersion School of Washington Programs

FISW is an immersion preschool and elementary school. We are an independent, private school, and our operating expenses are covered through tuition and fundraising. Our school community includes several different nationalities and provides parents with an international educational option that is recognized around the world.

Recent Successes and Current Challenges

At FISW, children graduate with a confidence in their ability to speak both French and English fluently. Our graduates are often a year ahead of their peers in both math and science. They graduate ready for middle school, bilingual and confident in who are they are.

Our Board of Directors approves a budget with a gap between tuition and our actual operating costs. This gap is covered through fundraising.
