Friends of Sealth - IB Scholarship Fund Programs
As one of the most diverse high schools in Washington State, Chief Sealth strives to provide opportunity for every student. In the past three years the number of program participants has grown from 57 to 78. Chief Sealth High School has graduated 38 full diploma candidates and 161 IB certificate students while dramatically increasing the number of students prepared for college. A study done under the auspices of the State of Oregon shows those students who take the exams have a higher rate of college success, regardless of the scores they earn.
Although the state pays 90% of test fees for students who qualify for free and reduced lunch benefits, the testing fees can be a significant barrier to participation for up to 25% or 20 families. By participating in the Big Give, we are hoping to raise $10,000 of the $14,900 needed to make sure that the test fees are not a barrier to any student.
