Helping Hands for the Disabled

Description

Helping Hands for the Disabled provides assisted living homes for adults with developmental disabilities.  We provide housing and all needed services for 23 men and women of different backgrounds, origins and abilities who come together to form a family in each of our four homes. These developmentally disabled persons enjoy passions, hobbies and pastimes that many Americans enjoy. Many of our residents have jobs. They, like you, must get out of bed early and go to jobs of customer service, production, or in the service industry. After their day of work they are glad to return to their homes at Halcyon, Champion, Trail House, or Visions.

Mission Statement

To support people with developmental disabilities in achieving their potential, building their self esteem, and enhancing their community involvement. To accomplish this, we commit our energy and resources to developing and maintaining residences and a continuum of program services to meet their needs.

Helping Hands for the Disabled Programs

Helping Hands for the Disabled provides housing and all necessary (each resident requires different levels of care, ranging from full support to prompting in their performance of their ADLs).  We provide transportation and staff support to residents in getting to and from their jobs, recreational activities, medical appointments and essential shopping.  We provide regular medical monitoring of each resident in our programs by licensed nurses to ensure that all medical issues are properly addressed.

Recent Successes and Current Challenges

We have a resident who moved into our program in 1997.  At that time, doctors advised us that this resident was not expected to live more than 4-6 months.  This resident is still alive, and is in good health and is thriving under our care.  We attribute this fact to the excellent level of care provided to each of our residents.  We take great pride in the services we provide to our residents.

We currently have a need for a new Sprinter van for our Halcyon program.  Halcyon is home to eight residents, and the current 2002 Dodge Ram van will not allow transport of more than two residents and their wheelchairs at a time.  We have Sprinter vans for our Champion House and Visions programs, and they have proven to be very efficient for our needs.
