Jefferson County Genealogical Society Programs
Many volunteer hours are spent collecting and cataloging civil, church, cemetery, and other records each year to make data available to researchers world wide. Much of this information is or will be in the near future available on our website.
On-going educational opportunities are provided for JCGS members including a monthly membership meeting, discussion groups, intermediate skill-building meetings and a newsletter.
JCGS maintains a collection of books and other resources relevant to genealogical research and provides, free of charge to members, access to subscription web sites containing genealogical data.
Recent Successes and Current Challenges
To reach our goal of making information available on Jefferson County families to researchers across the world, we recently completed a multi-year effort of cataloging all burials within Jefferson County and compiling this information in book and PDF file format. Within the next year, it will be made available on our website.
Member education being a backbone of JCGS, we believe the increasing cost of subscription web sites will present an on-going challenge to our organization.
