Programs

Lopez Island Historical Society Programs

Interpretive Exhibits
We develop and display new exhibits each year that focus on a different component of local life. Past exhibit themes have included farming, maritime/fishing, and Native islanders.

Educational Outreach
We are currently developing a local history curriculum for Lopez Elementary School students.

Port Stanley School
We completed restoration of the historic Port Stanley School in 2003. We host public programs at the school and make it available to island organizations and the public.

Recent Successes and Current Challenges

We introduced an interactive Children's Corner last year. It's a fun way for kids and parents to share their island experiences.

We completed a major remodel last year that provided additional exhibit space, an accessible restroom, and dry, secure archive and artifact storage. This was a significant step for LIHS, and has allowed us to increase visitor services as well as add thousands of items to our searchable catalog.
