Make Music Forever

Description

We are a small organization, with no paid staff and work with a bare bones operating budget so that the vast majority of our funds directly serve our clients. We give musical instruments to students in need throughout Washington State. In addition to encouraging students' creativity, we promote hard work and continued studies in school.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide musical instruments free of charge to students currently enrolled in a K through 12th grade school in Washington State. Because an interest in music doesn't end when the school year ends, Make Music Forever gives instruments to keep for a lifetime. Studies have shown that students who participate in school band or orchestra show improved scores in math and science, have increased self esteem, and lower instances of drug use.

Make Music Forever Programs

Quite simply, Make Music Forever has only one program: to put musical instruments into the hands of students and let them keep the instrument for life so they can study over the summer break or take it with them to college. All styles of music are encouraged : jazz, rock, marching band, orchestra, folk, classical and many others.

Make Music Forever's only other activity is letting students in need know that this service is available to them, working with schools and PTSA organizations, and collecting donations from the general population.

Recent Successes and Current Challenges

Almost as soon as the doors opened in May 2010 we began receiving requests for instruments. Make Music Forever has gifted instruments to students in the greater Puget Sound area and we look forward to expanding outwards into other counties and more remote areas of the state. We are thrilled by the response we have received from students, teachers, parents and donors.

Money is our greatest need at this time. We need funds to purchase more instruments, as we are quickly seeing that the need for instruments outweighs our ability to raise funds from individuals. The average cost of an entry level student instrument is $250, some less (like ukuleles) some more (like violins). We also accept donations of gently used instruments which we quickly match with a waiting student.
