Marra Farm Coalition Programs
Solid Ground's Lettuce Link program coordinates the Giving Garden at Marra Farm, generating over 17,000 pounds of fresh, organic produce in 2012 to share with local food banks. Lettuce Link also runs the Children's Garden, teaching local children how to grow their own food and prepare healthy garden-fresh snacks.
Immigrant gardeners in the Mien Community Garden feed their community members and seniors, as well as donating to local food banks.
Community gardeners at the Marra Farm P-Patch grow food for their families. The P-Patch Market Garden Plots provide gardeners with opportunities to supplement their income by growing produce for sale at local outlets.
Recent Successes and Current Challenges
In 2009, we grew over 16,300 pounds of organic produce at Marra Farm to donate to Providence Regina House Food Bank in Seattle's South Park neighborhood. Taught nutrition, organic growing, food production, and ecology for students from Concord Elementary in South Park and other South Seattle youth, reaching over 400 children.
We need tools, gardening supplies, volunteers and cash donations to pay our one staff member and provide a stipend for a farmhand.
