Multi-Communities 

Description

Multi-Communities (M.I.C) utilizes a wrap around  layered team approach to prevent, reduce or reverse domestic and sexual violence in predominantly African American faiith and other communities starting with orgahnization staff, plus a Community Resource Team of 12 professionals from victim and/or perpetrator treatment programs in youth, domestic, and sexual violence, as well as chemical dependency focuses on providing effective responses to victim/survivors of violence, as well as perpetrators of violence, or those at risk continuing with faith and or other leaders, then further continues with designated peer helpers, and others utilizing a number of education and awareness strategies such as teen dating violence prevention workshops,special classes on bullying, sexual violence prevention, healthy relationship skills, etc. for everyone within the faith community, as well as others.

Programs

Multi-Communities Programs

Multi-Communities offers a variety of services: 
  • Group workshops or faith and other community leaders and spouses or individual sessions on violence prevention and awareness.  Consultations, safety planning and  other support for leaders, who need assistance in help in responding effectively to victim/survivors of violence or those who behave violently.
  • Individual services for victim/survivors of violence and/or perpetrators of violence (with victim safety prioritized), as well as those at risk, women and men.
  • Awareness Events such as Annual Candlelight Vigils for survivors, Survivors Panel, Clergy Abuse Awareness training, Regionwide training for faith and other leaders on Domestic and Sexual Violence, Healthy Relationship Skills, etc.

Recent Successes and Current Challenges

Multi-Communities Executive Director recognized as a 2010 National Purpose Prize Fellow by Civic Ventures for social innovation in addressing domestic and sexual violence.

Wrote booklet on 101 Ways to Prevent, Reduce or Reverse Violence in Our Communities

Completed survey of 94 Black/African American girl and women, ages 14-25 on impact of domestic and sexual violence in predominantly African American faith communities in South, Central and West Seattle in cooperation with KCSARC and KCCADV, funded by City of Seattle Dept. of Neighborhoods.
