NuSol Capacity Fund

Description

NuSol Capacity Fund works to address the need for rural electrification in developing countries. Our pilot project focuses on the Andean highlands of central Peru. NuSol's partner community is situated 11,940 feet above sea level, in the Department of Huánuco, the second poorest department in Peru. This project will install a 2.5 kW off-grid solar electric power generating system and train select community members in the systematic maintenance, operation, and repair of the system.

Mission Statement
NuSol Capacity Fund (NuSol) partners with rural communities to install decentralized renewable energy systems while training community members in the operation and maintenance of those systems, thus creating the mechanisms for sustainable energy and community development.

NuSol Capacity Fund Programs

NuSol's pilot project,Peru Solar 2010, will install a 2.5 kW off-grid solar electric power generating system and train select community members in the systematic maintenance, operation, and repair of the system. NuSol Capacity Fund's goal will be to install a clean, reliable, and sustainable source of energy that Nueva Unión can use to provide power for their elementary school, medical post, LED lantern recharging station (70 total units, one per household).

Recent Successes and Current Challenges

NuSol Capacity Fund has identified Nueva Unión as its partner community and involved its residents in the decision-making process to ensure the project is conducted in a 'bottom-up" approach. NuSol has established a presence in Peru, where it has cultivated partnerships with Cáritas of Huari (a local NGO), the Catholic Diocese of Huari, and the Municipality of Huacaybamba. Lastly, NuSol has acquired all components of the solar energy system it will install and shipped them to Lima, Peru.

Currently, our organization is in need of additional funding for both current program and future administrative costs. Our pilot project, which we will conduct in late December, is need of more funding to be completed successfully. Also, in order to bring power and light to more communities after our pilot project is finished, we will need further, more consistent administrative funding.
