Charity Care
Residents of Providence Mount St. Vincent may live here forever, regardless of their financial situations. With the average age of our residents being 92, many have outlived their life savings and have no other resources available. The Providence Mount St. Vincent Foundation raises funds to help those residents. No resident is ever asked to leave because he or she has exhausted all finances.
Community and Personal Enrichment
At The Mount, we believe our residents should be able to live each day to the fullest regardless of physical and mental challenges. We continue to provide activities to stimulate the mind, body and spirit. Examples include: art classes; outings; music; movies; exercise; acupuncture; massage; beauty salon appointments; and other activities to keep our residents active. Also, there are many opportunities for the residents to interact with the children enrolled in our child care center resulting in mutual benefit. The children learn about the aging process and those with disabilities while the residents are reminded of when their own children were young.
Staff Education of Resident Directed Care
The Mount is recognized as an international leader in its philosophy of care called "Resident Directed Care." Residents may choose how they wish to live their lives. In order to maintain this high level of service, we provide funds for scholarships, continuing education, and programs for staff who speak English as a second language.
Recent Successes and Current Challenges
Success
Providence Mount St. Vincent recently experienced an annual survey of its nursing home conducted by the State of Washington Department of Social and Health Services. More than 400 regulations could be considered during the survey from safety issues to operational to policies. More than 30 resident records were studied, and we are proud to report that The Mount received zero (0) citations. There were no concerns. In this nursing home industry, this is a major accomplishment!
One of Providence Mount St. Vincent's Current Needs
One of our organization's current needs is funding to help our residents who have outlived their life savings. Once a resident moves to The Mount permanently, he or she may live here forever, regardless if his or her financial situation changes. Our residents pay on a month-to-month basis. No one is ever asked to move out because he or she has no more finances. With the average age of our residents being 92, this is happening more often. In fact, more than 50 percent of residents living in our skilled nursing neighborhoods have depleted all financial resources despite careful planning. The Providence Mount St. Vincent Foundation raises funds throughout the year to help residents in need.
