Puget Sound Regional Services Programs

PSRS provides supported living (SL) services to a wide variety of individuals with varying needs and capabilities. We are one of  a few organizations that provides  SL services to individuals who experience deaf-blindness as well as having a developmental disability. We support developmentally disabled participants who are wheel chair bound and require full physical assistance. Further, we work with developmentally disabled individuals who do not experience physical challenges, but require intense supports due to a psychiatric diagnosis or exceptional behavioral challenges.  We support all of our participants to engage in activities of daily living by providing supports with health needs, medications, mental health needs, money management, hygiene, household chores, employment, emergent health issues, socialization, federal and state benefits management, communication, and community access & participation.

Recent Successes and Current Challenges

PSRS recently supported a  young man with complex mental health, developmental delay and communication issues to move out into the community from a mental health facility. Prior to receiving service from PSRS this young man spent his days confined to a mental health facilty with no access to his community or control over how he spent his time. He was in this facility for eight months and prior to that he was routinely in and out of the facility due to consistent mental health crisis.  He currently resides in a one bedroom apartment with PSRS staff support twenty-four hours a day and participates fully in his community. With PSRS support and guidance he makes his own choices about where he shops, what groceries & clothes he buys, what meals he prepares, what clothes he wears, what activities he does in the community, what job he wants to pursue, how his financial resources are used and much more. A current and ongoing need within our organization is to generate enough revenue to adequately compensate our direct support staff for the vital work they do. These staff provide much needed supports to all of the participants in our program - without these staff our clients  would not have the positive and productive lives that they experience.
