Recent Successes and Current Challenges
A recent success of our organization was in 2011, when we received an Alcoa grant to grow our RE Vision Division program. It allowed us to bring on a full-time employee - a furniture builder and artist, Eberhard Eichner, to create furniture and household items made out of slower moving materials we have in our stores. Items such as arbors, benches, bookshelves, planter boxes, and more. It has been a great success, with items selling as quick as he can make them.
One of our current needs for the organization however is for our Truck Fund. Trucks are essential to our salvage endeavors. They keep our field crews on the job and material in the store. They drive down your neighborhood streets to pick-up surplus cabinets, windows and doors. They haul salvaged lumber, roofing and fencing from homes, schools, businesses, and construction sites - over 5 million lbs of materials in 2012. They’ve helped countless builders save on dumping fees, while keeping down landfill inputs. Unfortunately our truck fleet team members - Clutch, Fuso, Possum, and Herman (yep, all the trucks have names) - are showing advanced signs of aging and won’t be around much longer.
You can help keep The RE Store rolling! Donations will go to our Truck Fund to ensure we can do our job helping homeowners, builders, and businesses. And if you donate during GiveBIG your gift helps us get a greater percentage of the ‘stretch pool’ donation - every little bit helps. Thank you for considering us!
