RSSC serves immigrant and refugee families in south and central King County. Most of our clients are of East African origin. RSSC meets the needs of the adult population in the communities it serves through ESL training, workshops on parenting skills to maintain family cohesiveness and support emotional health in their children. These programs provide an awareness of and effective responses to social problems they and their children may encounter domestic violence, substance abuse, and crime and gang violence. They require a supportive community center in which they can find mutual encouragement, assistance, and education towards their success in America.

Recent Successes and Current Challenges

Most up-to-date success and challenge in 2011:
  • 320 clients received advocacy services
  • 282 clients received referrals for housing, utility assistance, medical, and legal assistance
  • 51 students from K-12 grades received tutoring and homework  assistance
  • 104 benefited from our parent school connation programs
  • 21 youths received drug prevention service
Since the state deeply cuts the social service budget, and also cities and county cut their budgets, RSSC is asking for financial support  to continue providing the essential services to the underserved communities of South King County.
