Seattle Choral Company Programs
We produce an annual concert series that offers 2-3 major public concerts presented at various venues throughout Seattle . Our performances are musically rigorous, often challenging, and offer exciting and expanding opportunities for local vocal performers, soloists, and instrumentalists.
Outside of our regular season of concerts, the SCC also serves as the guest chorus for organizations such as the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra when they produce works that require choral accompaniment. We have also been featured as the guest chorus at special events such as 2009's "Star Wars in Concert" at Key Arena and 2010’s “The Music Man in Concert” conducted by Maestro Marvin Hamlisch.
The SCC also regularly makes and markets recordings of its work and provides vocal accompaniment for the film industry (credits-to-date including the films Minority Report, Spider Man, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Chronicles of Narnia).
Recent Successes and Current Challenges
During our 2009 season, we presented the “Mozart Mass in C minor” at Benaroya Hall, a rare performance of the newly reconstructed version of Mozart’s grandest masterpiece for voices and orchestra. For the second year in a row, we offered “A Cathedral Christmas,” a collection of classic and contemporary holiday compositions, to sold-out audiences in Seattle and Bothell. Three times in the past year we were cited for "Excellence in Creative Programming" by The Voice of Chorus America magazine.
Ticket sales cover only a small portion of the real cost of producing live concerts. The SCC's overhead costs are low as we don't maintain our own performance space, but because we utilize the talents of many professional guest artists, our artistic expenditures are considerable. Contributed support enables us to take risks in commissioning new works from emerging composers. Other major needs include funding to hire an Executive Director and to launch a major CD recording next year.
