AS-YOU-LIKE-IT Library dba Seattle Metaphysical Library

Description

We specialize in sacred texts from all world religions, as well as lineage teachings from all cultures.  We have a wide variety of holistic and and indigenous healing books, and western and eastern mystics and ancient mystery schools and secret societies, as well as local Seattle and northwest publications from a wide variety of people who are moved to share their life experiences with the public.  For fifty years, we have been collecting unusual books, magazines, and media that are not part of the normal library collections.  We have space for local and traveling authors to give readings, and host workshops and discussion groups.  Our library comfortably has room for about 20 people in the audience if the speaker does not need a table or other presentation material.

Our goal is to build up an audience of people interested in the new research being done in mind-body-consciousness, to support researchers who are looking for a wider audience.

We are specifically targetting the people who do not normally have access to this material.

Mission Statement
We are a non-affiliated, non-profit resource center dedicated to personal transformation and evolving global consciousness by providing access to material not normally available through more academic and traditional libraries, and by providing a meeting space for small group discussions and lectures.

AS-YOU-LIKE-IT Library dba Seattle Metaphysical Library Programs

We have over 13,000 books to lend, we have speakers, lectures, and discussion groups.  We are open the public.  A membership fee of $35 a year allows people to borrow material.  We often charge a small fee for our speakers and programs.  There is no charge to the general public to sit and read material in the library.

Most of our classes and workshops have a modest suggested donation of $5 to $10 per session.

Recent Successes and Current Challenges

We recently hosted Michael Cremo, author of Forbidden Archeologist.  He is a Sanskrit scholar, and the audience was much more interested in his knowledge about the ancient Vedic texts that in his books, and he was very excited to have an educated audience that had new information for him.

He brought his own projector, and we were in a donated space that is no longer available to us. We need a computer projector to accommodate speakers who don't have their own, and an affordable (free) space to hold events when we expect more than 15 people, which is about the upper limit of comfort for our space.
