Recent Successes and Current Challenges

In September, 2010, we received in partnership with Seattle Public Schools, a $1.05M Youth Engagement Zone Grant from Learn and Serve America, Corporation for National and Community Service.  This funding is supporting teacher coaching in service learning, student service learning projects connecting classroom curriculum and community needs, transitions from 8th to 9th grade, STEM career and college awareness, and the transition to college (South Seattle Community College) with the three geographically targeted schools.(Aki Kurose, Mercer, and the STEM Program @ Cleveland High School.  This funding needs to be matched dollar for dollar.  Cash match for these activities will assist with this effort.

Service Learning Seattle also provides assist to all service learning practitioners in Seattle Public Schools.  In the 2011, federal budget, this grant funding was eliminated for future years.  Approximately, $45,000 are needed for this effort.
