Sister Schools

Description

Through pictures and stories, Sister Schools builds direct relationships between American and Ugandan students. Each year, up to 15 schools in the greater Seattle area organize supply drives for which students are encouraged to participate in ways that are personally meaningful. Both new and used items are accepted. Those supplies are distributed to up to 15 schools and orphanages in Uganda. After the donations are distributed, a return presentation is given to each classroom at each participating school in the US so that our children see the direct impact of their specific donation.

Mission Statement
Sister Schools teaches compassion, service and social responsibility by partnering students in donor schools with children in need. Sister Schools achieves this through two complementary goals: First, providing students the life-changing and character-building experience of personal giving; and second, providing supplies, hope and inspiration to children in need.

Programs

Sister Schools Programs

In addition to providing school supplies, sports equipment and clothing to children at schools and orphanages in Uganda, Sister Schools builds Resource Centers and other needed structures, such as a new bath house and a security wall, and supports post-seventh-grade education for Scholarship Program students.

Recent Successes and Current Challenges

Sister Schools recently built a security wall at the Mukono Boarding School, protecting children from the very real threat of those who kidnap children for body parts.

The schools we support in Uganda do not have libraries or secure places for books. To address that need, we have built four Resource Centers, which have also become community centers for those school communities. Our goal is to build one new Resource Center a year, at the per each cost of about $15,000.
