Soulumination

Description

Soulumination was founded by local Seattle photographer Lynette Huffman Johnson, who began photographing families and children over 25 years ago. After experiencing the loss of her best friend's baby Janus, and agreeing to photograph her own niece Lanie, who was stillborn, these two children were the driving force behind Soulumination. Since its inception in 2005, Soulumination has grown from one photographer to its current 35 professional volunteer photographers. We serve families primarily in the greater Puget Sound area and Washington state, but are happy to assist in connecting families with photographers across the US. Our goal is to celebrate and honor these special lives, no matter how long or short, by providing beautiful, professional-quality photographs, free of charge, as a loving and lasting legacy.

Mission Statement
Soulumination celebrates the lives of children and parents facing life-threatening conditions by providing professional photographs--free of charge--of these special individuals and their families. The life-affirming photographs of Soulumination are an enduring, positive record of the child's brief life, and provide a loving legacy for the children of parents lost to terminal illness.

Programs

Soulumination Programs

Our mission is two-fold: In our "Angel Baby" program, Soulumination provides photographic services to families whose children--from birth to 18 years--are facing life-threatening conditions. In our "Adult Legacy" program, we provide photographic services to families with terminally-ill adults at end-of-life, who have children ages 18 and under. Most of our referrals come from social workers, nurses, or other hospital or hospice staff, but any individual may call us or refer a family after getting verbal consent that they are interested in having pictures taken.

Recent Successes and Current Challenges

Jon Ward's award-winning 2007 documentary on Soulumination called "Portraits of Hope" can now be found on Netflix (search for "International Documentary Challenge") or seen on YouTube, courtesy of a4creative: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYaEjQkTbYU&feature=youtu.be

We are currently searching for small grant opportunities, a volunteer bookkeeper (1 day/wk) and local Seattle artists to donate items to be sold at our annual Artists' Sale in December.
