Splash

Description

Kids need water — as do all of us — to be healthy, grow, and thrive. But children living in urban poverty, globally, are typically left to drink water that can make them sick. Splash intervenes in the global water crisis, on behalf of children, knowing that unclean water in baby bottles, school drinking fountains, orphanage kitchens, and hospital rooms will limit a child's potential and opportunity.

Splash actively ensures safe water for over 200,000 children daily, and by 2020 aims to do so for 1 million kids. The model is built on locally sustainable solutions, appropriate water purification technology, and strong collaborative partnerships with organizations (like schools, orphanages, and hospitals) that are already serving children well — but without clean water supply.

Mission Statement
To change the lives of vulnerable children in impoverished urban areas by providing clean, safe drinking water to orphanages, schools, children’s hospitals, street shelters and rescue homes.

Water Purification (6-10 gallons/minute)
Using world-class ultra-filtration technology (as is used by global food chains), Splash equips organizations serving children (like schools, hospitals and orphanages) to possess reliably safe water. Thanks to a generous philanthropic relationship with the manufacturer, we are able to do so at far below the cost that multinational corporations would pay for equal equipment.

Hygiene Promotion
In addition to ensuring safe drinking water, Splash creates physical facilities (hand washing stations) and teaches hygiene practices to advance public health.

Recent Successes and Current Challenges

Over 200,000 children -- previously drinking contaminated water -- can now rely on safe water: in China, Nepal, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Vietnam and Thailand. We anticipate announcing soon that every orphanage in China has safe drinking water. By 2020, the model that made this possible will have been customized and rolled out in sixteen countries (in S & SE Asia and E Africa), serving over one million children daily.

Our greatest need is to optimize our existing online platform for tracking every project, viewable at www.proving.it. This tool makes is possible for donors, and the public, to track every single project we undertake, including notice of failures, maintenance, monitoring, and success. Our intent is to serve as proof of concept, then make this platform available across the nonprofit sector.
