Tacoma Goodwill Industries

Description

Goodwill 's stores provide jobs for people with disabilities and employment disadvantages, throughout Pierce, South King and other WA counties, such as mothers on public assistance, unemployed veterans, adults with disabilities, youth without a HS diploma, people with limited education and work history, limited english language speakers, and others who want a hand-up, not a hand-out. Retail income from 29 stores, five in King county, also funds job training and related services for over 9,000 job seekers each year. In South King County the five stores and newly opened warehouse and outlet store employ over 100 people who would otherwise not have jobs. Over 250 people came to the programs from South King county (2012) and many youth sought help at the REACH center for young adults 16-24.

Recent Successes and Current Challenges

Current Need
A pressing need is to find donors to support our Scholarship Fund. This fund helps to cover the cost of  short term training programs available to anyone from South King County and the areas we serve - Custodial, Computer Skills, Warehouse/Logistics, Culinary, and Retail Skills training. The Scholarship Fund is fully tapped every year due to the demand for our free vocational training and job placement services for people who need our help. xxxx

Success
Last year alone, We placed 1,900 people directly into jobs, 25% above our goal.
