The Municipal League Foundation Programs

The League pursues its mission through the following programs:

King County Government Reform Committee
The King County Reform Committee  monitors the County's reform efforts and updates the pubic about successes and challenges along the way. The purpose of this committee is two fold: to shine a light on good government in the making and to support solid leadership efforts that may encounter resistance from those not primarily focused on the public good.

Ballot Issues Committee
The Ballot Issues Committee is comprised of citizen volunteers who study an issue presented on an upcoming ballot and review information from all sides. The committee's non-partisan recommendations are then reviewed and approved by the Municipal League Foundation Board, whose focus is on promoting effective government.

The Metro Transit Committee
The Municipal League Foundation's transportation committee has initiated a follow-up study of Metro Transit to analyze the status of recommendations made in the 2008 Review of Metro Transit. The Report offered recommendations in the areas of service allocation, performance measurement and public communication. It is now time to assess how well recommendations were adopted. In addition the project team will review the performance audit recommendations, assess conformance with King County Executive Constantine's goals, and examine the Metro website for pertinent information and ease of navigation.

Recent Successes and Current Challenges

The Municipal League Foundation engages and convenes citizens to study policy issues facing the region and to analyze ballot measures. It develops recommendations and provides information to the public.  It fills a role as an independent non-partisan seeker of solutions to a wide range of issues.

The Municipal League Foundation (in conjunction with the Municipal League of King County) also presents the annual Civic Awards recognizing and honoring the accomplishments of elected officials, public employees, other citizen groups, the news media, and individual citizens who make outstanding contributions to the community and to better government. A list of our 2012 Civic Awards Winners can be found on our website at : http://www.munileague.org/civic-awards

In the last few years, the Municipal League Foundation has studied and made recommendations on growth management, Seattle City Light, the Port of Seattle, Metro Transit and land use permitting throughout King County.

Currently, the Municipal League Foundation is in need of support to ensure the continuation of our general office operations as well as support for our specialized programs that serve the whole of King County.
