Description

Founded in 1920, Virginia Mason Medical Center’s comprehensive regional health care system combines a primary and specialty care group practice of nearly 400 physicians with a 336-bed acute care hospital in Seattle. Virginia Mason owns and operates Bailey-Boushay House, a nursing residence and outpatient program for people living with HIV/AIDS. The Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason (BRI) is an internationally recognized research institute focused on molecular biology and the genetic aspects of autoimmune diseases and cancer.

To enhance the patient experience,Virginia Mason has launched a comprehensive fundraising campaign— Transforming Healthcare— VM’s campaign includes the following strategies that reflect our commitment to continuous improvement, and the creation of patient-centered health care delivery systems and processes: The best people, working together as a team – Team Medicine at VM, a proven method for creating quality – Virginia Mason Production System, a physical environment that supports and accelerates service.               

Virginia Mason provides comprehensive care, ranging from primary and preventive care to complex specialty services that put patients first. Our direct service programs include the following: The Floyd and Dolores Jones Cancer Institute, The Heart Institute, The Digestive Disease Institute, Urology, Center for Hyperbaric Medicine, Neuroscience Institute, Benaroya Diabetes Center, Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.

Recent Successes and Current Challenges

In December 2010, Virginia Mason Medical Center was named the Leapfrog Top Hospital of the Decade. Virginia Mason was cited for its strong public commitments and major achievements in reducing medical errors and other innovations in patient safety and quality.
