YES Foundation of White Center Programs
Jack Thompson Sports Camps
We offer summer sports camps & clinics to young athletes who are excited to learn the skills and fundamentals in a variety of sports including tennis, football, soccer, basketball, volleyball and cheer. We have provided this camping experience for 8 summers, serving nearly 1000 student-athletes ages 6-18 over the years.
Major Taylor Bicycle Club
In addition to teaching kids about bike safety and bike maintenance, this club participates in a weekly ride to experience their community and different areas of Seattle on bikes. For the past 3 years, our Major Taylor Bike Club successfully rode in the Seattle to Portland race. This is a program we run in partnership with Cascade Bike Club.
Upper Room Studio
Young people have an opportunity to explore their talents, passion and interests in music, sound and video production while becoming proficient in recording and media software and equipment. This summer we will offer a six-week media camp to our young friends who are interested in gaining knowledge and experience in sound and video production. Media Camp to be held in Upper Room Studio.
Recent Successes and Current Challenges
A young lady who has been involved with the YES Foundation for 5 years graduated from high school in December. She is someone who tried everything that we had to offer but it took awhile before she found the program that interested her the most. She is an artist and naturally gravitated to our partnership with AIGA Link, a program that provides a once a month art workshop that meets at Cornish College in Seattle. She has participated in that program for almost 3 years. Through Link, this young person was able to discover and hone her own artistic skills, form relationships with other local artists, including teaching artists, apply for and win scholarship money and store credit at Utrecht, an art supply store which is tantamount to a Candy Store for artists! One other unintended benefit was this young person found a field expert to help her with her senior project. AIGA Link has been life giving to her.
Currently, our needs are just to be able to keep doing what we are doing. Helping to connect kids to opportunities like the one described above.
