The Seattle Foundation works with our donors to create a Healthy Community for people in King County and beyond by awarding millions of dollars in grant money, convening community dialogues and responding to immediate philanthropic needs.
Through our 1,200 individual and family funds, The Seattle Foundation and its donors award nonprofits more than $45 million in grants each year. These grants support a broad range of areas that comprise a Healthy Community: basic needs, healthy and wellness, education, the economy, arts and culture, neighborhoods and communities and environment. Our grants also support national and international organizations based on donors’ interests.
With 60 years of experience in our community, The Seattle Foundation has a deep understanding of local issues and nonprofit organizations. We conduct more than 500 site visits annually and collect community data, research and best practices to provide our donors with ongoing, accurate information about our region’s strengths and needs.
The Seattle Foundation hosts regular community conversations where we convene donors, nonprofit staff and leaders, and experts in the field to build a greater understanding of issues and a stronger community network. These events encourage collaborations between nonprofits and help identify gaps in local services and support. They also provide an opportunity to discuss the elements of a Healthy Community.
As our community’s foundation, we respond to immediate needs and emergencies. Whether that means creating a special fund for local earthquake recovery, Southeast Asia Tsunami, or Hurricane Katrina, The Seattle Foundation and its donors meet urgent community needs.
In 2006, The Seattle Foundation was ranked the highest community foundation in the country by Charity Navigator and made its top ten Charity Hall of Fame list of nonprofits across the country. |
