Since starting a family of her own, Donna Lou has been passionate about the development of healthy neighborhoods.
One of Donna’s first projects was to help rebuild a dilapidated playground in her neighborhood, which drew diverse families. With assistance from the city and grants from organizations like The Seattle Foundation, they began to see change in and around the playground. “We saw droves of people using the park. I drive by it every day, and it’s very rewarding to see,” she says. Thanks to these efforts, small businesses have opened up around the park, and the playground has become a central gathering place for community events.
