End of Year Giving
Important dates and reminders for end-of-year giving
November 18, 2015
Battening down the hatches, reconnecting with friends and family, pondering the year gone by and the one to come—it’s what we do this time of year.
So let’s get to it.
At Seattle Foundation, we’re celebrating a milestone: 2015 marks the first time we will exceed $100 million in annual grants, and brings us to more than $1 billion in grants since the Foundation’s inception in 1946. We’re proud—and grateful to all of you—to bring the year to a close in such a momentous way.
We thank all our partners who work with us to unite passion and discipline to create lasting change in our community. We are excited to see what we can do in the new year—but, quick reminder, this one’s not over yet! There’s still time to make a difference.
Since 2012, people around the country have expanded their list of post-Thanksgiving traditions (think: Black Friday and Cyber Monday) to include the social-media-fueled celebration of philanthropy known as #GivingTuesday.
Seattle Foundation can help you participate in this epic expression of philanthropy—which this year takes place on December 1. At Seattle Foundation’s online Giving Center, you’ll find our directory of 1,700 nonprofit organizations working to make Greater Seattle a stronger, more vibrant community for all. Organized by issue, the list makes it easy to support the causes you believe in. After you donate, join the social media celebration via the hashtag #GivingTuesday, and inspire others to follow your example.

Year-End Reminders for Seattle Foundation Philanthropists
To ensure nonprofits receive your grants by the end of the year, please make your recommendations no later than Sunday, December 13, 2015. Grants made after this date are not guaranteed to reach the designated nonprofit organization until January 2016.
Contribute to your fund: The end of the year is an ideal time to add assets to your philanthropic fund. To qualify as a tax-deductible gift for 2015, please ensure that we receive your gift by Thursday, December 31 at 5 p.m., or, if mailed, postmarked by 12/31/15.
Please note, however, that if you plan to make a donation of appreciated stock, be sure to allow your broker sufficient time to complete the transaction. Donations cannot be credited for this year unless they are received into Seattle Foundation’s account by December 31, 2015. Transfers of securities can take anywhere from one day to several weeks to complete, so it is crucial not to delay if you hope to realize benefits of a charitable deduction in 2015.
