The GiveBIG Big 3:  Our Partners From Day 1

A bit of history:  GiveBIG began in 2011 as a little idea to drive traffic to Seattle Foundation's web site.  That was our goal and raising money for area nonprofits was our strategy. We had just unveiled a robust new site, featuring a "Giving Center" that gave descriptions and data on area nonprofits.  Other community foundations, such as those in Minneapolis and Pittsburgh, had recently launched Giving Days so we jumped on that idea as a strategy to bring people to to learn about area nonprofits and Seattle Foundation and support our region’s amazing nonprofits.  Thus, GiveBIG was born and the rest, as they say, is history.  We are now preparing for our sixth one-day, online giving campaign and aiming to raise $20 million on May 3!

KING5, Seattle Sounders FC and The Seattle Times are three partners who joined with us in the earliest days to make GiveBIG possible.  Willing to test out this new style of online giving campaign, all three organizations invested in helping us make GiveBIG successful in a uniquely Seattle way.  They shared their talented staff, marketing and communications channels, networks of partners, and just about anything else we asked for that would support GiveBIG's success. GiveBIG had the strong support of the organizations’ leadership and that enthusiasm penetrated all levels of the company.  Everyone who touched GiveBIG was – and still is – strongly invested in making it a success for the community.  The result is more than $56 million raised for area nonprofits over the last five years.

The generosity from each of these three organizations simply can’t be measured, nor can the impact KING5, Seattle Sounders FC and The Seattle Times has had on Greater Seattle through their involvement with GiveBIG – not to mention the scores of other community causes they are engaged in each and every day.

As we embark on GiveBIG 2016, Seattle Foundation sends a GiveBIG-sized THANK YOU to these outstanding companies for taking a chance on this novel Giving Day concept back in 2011 and giving all they could to make it happen. This event that began as a little idea has now definitely earned the “BIG” in its name.  GiveBIG is one of the largest regional Giving Days in the nation.

We specifically commend Betsy Robertson at KING5, Taylor Graham and Roger Levesque at Seattle Sounders FC and Philip Roewe, Belinda Hoschar, Suzanne Canino and the whole digital team at The Seattle Times for their passion and support of GiveBIG.  You are GiveBIG Allstars!

See you all online on May 3 to GiveBIG!
