Dollars for Change

April 06, 2017

Dollars for Change is a new donor-driven effort that will award more than $350,000 to participating King County nonprofits. While Dollars for Change will benefit nonprofits of all sizes, in order to bring greater equity in the distribution of additional dollars, an emphasis will be placed on small- and mid-sized organizations.

Multiple GiveBIG donors will be chosen every hour over a 15-hour period, starting at 7 a.m. PDT on Wednesday, May 10. The selected donor’s gift will be leveraged and the GiveBIG nonprofit they contributed to will receive an additional $2,500 award through Dollars for Change

The participating organizations will be selected based on several criteria, including that they work within one of the eight elements of our Healthy Community Framework: basic needs, economic opportunity, health and wellness, education, environment, arts and culture, vibrant communities and global giving. Awards will be given across the following five budget categories: $0 - $250,000; $250,000 - $500,000; $500,000 - $750,000; $750,000 - $2.5 million; and more than $2.5 million

The way Dollars for Change will work is that a report will be generated by our technology partner, CiviCore, based on the criteria we are applying: the donor supported a nonprofit based in King County, the Healthy Community Framework element, and the organization’s budget size. For example, the database can export a donor that supported an organization in the Vibrant Communities Element that has a budget size under $250,000 and is based in King County.

Donations made up to that point that meet the criteria, including gifts made during the pre-giving period of April 27 – May 9, will be eligible to be selected. If your organization is selected to receive an award, Seattle Foundation staff will email you and the donor that contributed to your organization.

Dollars for Change is an amazing opportunity for nonprofits to receive additional funds that contribute to the important work that you do! Thank you for your support of GiveBIG.
