GiveBIG is May 10! We've got an exciting line-up of activities to support Greater Seattle's giving.

May 03, 2017

In just six days, we will come together as a community to make Greater Seattle a stronger, more vibrant community for all. In order to drive awareness and engagement, Seattle Foundation has planned a lineup of activities leading up to and on May 10!

On Sunday, April 30, GiveBIG sponsor The Seattle Times published a special section called the Giving Guide. The Giving Guide highlights nonprofits in our community, the impact they are making, and how readers can get involved and/or make a donation. There is also a listing of participating GiveBIG nonprofits. Look for an additional full page listing of participating nonprofits in this Sunday’s edition of The Seattle Times.

GiveBIG sponsor the Seattle Sounders FC are going all out for GiveBIG, with a featured match, player cards, a nonprofit fair and more! The MLS Champions, a longtime sponsor of GiveBIG, is dedicating its May 6 match against Toronto FC to encouraging fans and followers to donate generously to community nonprofits. The game is a rematch of the 2016 MLS Championship and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN at 12 p.m. PDT.

In addition to featuring GiveBIG prominently during the match, the team is also hosting a nonprofit fair at the north plaza of Century Link field before the match. Fans will have the opportunity to be entered to win an autographed Sounders jersey and $2,500 for their favorite nonprofit through Seattle Foundation’s Dollars for Change awards, with the lucky winner invited onto the field at halftime.

Also at halftime, the Sounders will debut a GiveBIG PSA video encouraging fans to donate to their favorite nonprofits through GiveBIG. After the video premieres, it will be added to the GiveBIG website and shared on social to help spread the word.

On May 10, we will be kicking off the day with GiveBIG sponsors King 5, STAR 101.5 and other local media, broadcasting from an affordable housing development serving people at risk of homelessness. Both King 5 and STAR 101.5 will be updating viewers and listeners on GiveBIG totals and encouraging participation throughout the day.

Throughout the day, volunteers will be deployed at high-traffic pedestrian locations across Greater Seattle (based on available volunteers). They will be wearing GiveBIG t-shirts, holding signs and reminding people to donate. Volunteers will also be passing out “I GaveBIG today” stickers to those who have donated. Three of the locations, including Westlake Park, will feature STAR 101.5 pop-up tents where people can make on-site donations on Kindle Fire tablets generously provided by GiveBIG sponsor Amazon.

We are still looking for volunteers to help us spread the word. This is a great way for both individuals and small groups to support GiveBIG (and the nonprofits they support!) If you know anyone who is interested in volunteering, please contact streetteams@seattlefoundation.org for further details.

Thank you again for your GiveBIG participation!
